Dr Ben Brooker

Dr Brooker grew up in Warragul and attended school in Warragul and Drouin before completing his medical training at the University of Melbourne in 2005. Dr Brooker has been privileged to work with and learn from some excellent surgeons and mentors both locally and overseas, completing his orthopaedic training in Victoria and Tasmania and specialist fellowship training in arthroplasty and revision surgery in Canada.

Dr Brooker returned from fellowship in 2016 with a keen interest in modern techniques and approaches to knee and hip replacement surgery particularly, and an enthusiasm to continue to evolve his practice as new evidence emerges. This continues today and Dr Brooker keeps up to date with the most recent orthopaedic techniques and literature. Dr Brooker also trains the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons as director of training at Latrobe Regional Health.

Dr Brooker began working in the local orthopaedic unit in Traralgon in 2016 and continues to live and work in Gippsland with his family. Dr Brooker consults and operates in Traralgon, Maryvale and Warragul and has a strong commitment to the local community. With over 10 years of experience in orthopaedic practice, he specialises in knee and hip replacements, ACL reconstruction, and revision surgeries.

Specialisation in lower limb arthroplasty

Dr Brooker specialises in knee and hip replacements, ACL reconstruction and sports-related knee injuries. He completed specialised fellowship training in arthroplasty and revision surgery in Canada, providing experience with complex cases and specialist surgical techniques.

Dr Brooker utilises robotic technology in knee replacements. Robotic-assisted surgery allows greater precision during surgery and helps to preserve the soft tissues.

Training AOA registrars at Latrobe Regional Health

Dr Brooker is the Director of Training for the orthopaedic registrars at Latrobe Regional Health. This teaching role helps maintain current knowledge of evolving surgical techniques and contributes to the training of future orthopaedic surgeons.

A commitment to the region

Dr Brooker and his wife Alison live in Yarragon with their children Rose and Tom. Living locally, Dr Brooker understands the challenges regional patients face accessing specialist care and is passionate about providing an orthopaedic service to the local community. Dr Brooker works with other local orthopaedic surgeons as well as surgeons travelling from Melbourne to provide high level orthopaedic care locally in both public and private hospital settings.

Outside of surgery Dr Brooker enjoys tinkering in his shed and working on his hobby farm in Yarragon, often in the vegetable garden, and spending time with his family.
